If yes, then it is time you consulted a gynaecologist. You could have a Urinary Tract Infection.
UTI or Urinary Tract Infection is extremely common among women, regardless of age. This bacterial infection could lead to serious medical implications, if not treated at an early stage.
According to Mumbai-based gynaecologist Dr. Ranjana Dhanu, "Women are more likely to have this infection, as their urethra is shorter. Hence, the bacteria do not have to travel much to get to the urinary tract."
Here are some other reasons that cause this infection:
- Sexual activity
- Diabetes
- Other diseases in the pelvis like inflammatory bowel disease
- Post Catheterisation (urinary tract tests)
- Dryness of the vaginal tract
What to Notice?
You most likely have UTI if:
- You have the urge to pass urine more often.
- You pass blood or a whitish discharge while urinating.
- You have a burning sensation while passing urine.
- You experience pain while urinating.
- You have a pain in the lower abdomen.
- You get fever with chills.
In fact, the bacteria could spread to most of the upper body and cause infections in other inner organs as well.
What Can Be Done?
If you experience any of these symptoms continuously, visit your gynaecologist immediately. You will be prescribed antibiotics and B-complex medication.
Also, get a culture sensitivity test done. This helps ensure that you don't get a relapse of the infection, because if you do, it might be difficult to cure it.
Prevention Better Than Cure
Remember, proper vaginal hygiene is absolutely necessary to stay away from this infection.
Use separate towels for different family members, especially for you and your partner. Using the same towel does not aggravate the infection but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Also, improve your body resistance by eating healthy and exercising daily. Drink lots of water and fruit juices.
