But maybe, just maybe, your hair is not as strong and healthy as you think. The only way to find out is to test your hair. Yes, put your hair through these simple tests and see if your tresses pass.
Testing 1, 2, 3
Want to be sure that you have strong, healthy hair? Here are a few simple tests that you can do at home.
Stretch and Pull Away
The hair elasticity test is supposed to be the one test that determines the strength of your hair.
Just take a single dry strand of your hair and hold it between the thumb and forefinger. Now stretch that strand very slowly. The further it stretches the better the elasticity of your hair is. Also, if it contracts once you stop stretching the strand, then your hair is good and strong.
However, if it snaps and breaks soon after you begin stretching, then your hair is really weak.
Why does this happen?
If you brush wet hair, then this will weaken it and cause it to your hair lose elasticity. Chemicals in products like hair colour, also weakens hair on repeated use.
The Highway to Hell?
Think that your hair feels and behaves like the highway to hell? A simple test will confirm how porous your hair is.
Take a few strands of dry hair from the crown area and comb it out smooth (use a close tooth comb to do this). Now hold the ends of the strands between the thumb and index finger of one hand.
Slide the thumb and index finger of the other hand on the hair. If it ruffles up as you slide your fingers across, then your hair is porous and you will need to have it treated.
However, if you can slide your fingers easily across the strands then it is not very porous and is healthy.
Why does this happen?
Nothing will roughen your hair like the constant use of chemicals.
Even if you feel the need to colour your hair, then make sure that you have it done at a professional salon.
Follow the after hair colour care like oiling religiously.
