
While the number of visitors from mainland China continues to be largest, followed by Hong Kong and then Southeast Asia, affluent Indians are clearly also attracted to its skyscrapers, wide roads, cobbled streets and its mix of the best in the west and the east.
'It is a hot favourite with Indians these days. It has good properties, casinos and also offers entertainment for children,' said Riaz Munshi, a travel agent based in New Delhi.
As the Macanese take pride in their heritage, most of the old structures built mainly by the Portuguese have been overhauled but outwardly retain their original look. While the facade remains, the interiors are totally modern with new wiring and fittings.
One can only walk through the cobbled streets around these buildings, as vehicles are not allowed. Most of the structures house either government offices or stores. They give one a glimpse into 400 years of Portuguese influence.
It wouldn't be wrong to say that these buildings are the best architecture the city boasts of and are protected structures.
