Of course you will be anxious, but sometimes when you have to go out of town for work, you really have no option but to do it.
You are worried about everything from whether they will open the door to strangers, to them starving because they can't cook. Going to school on time may be a hassle too right? After all, who will wake them up?
So to make sure everything goes right and you don't come back to a home that looks like a hurricane ran through it, just follow a few simple tips:
What You Can Do
Locking Doors
Keeping your kids locked indoors will keep the burglars out, but will not keep your children safe either.
What if there is a fire, or if they need to leave the house in case of a medical emergency? So don't ever lock them in from outside.
Keep them safe by showing them how to lock all the doors from "inside".
Make sure they don't answer the door to strangers. For this, you should attach a chain lock to your door, have a security camera, or a peephole at least.

Make it possible for them to be safe when they answer the door to the courier boys by having a double door.
And most importantly, leave with them a copy of the house keys!
For Food
Do these simple things to make sure your kids don't starve while you are not around:
- Leave the fridge stocked with food items that will be more than enough to feed your kids three meals a day plus a snack. So when they get hungry, all they will need to do is pop the dish in the microwave or heat it on the gas, if they are older.
- Teach your kids to make simple meals like sandwiches, a simple potato subzi, or a khichdi.
- Stock your kitchen with a few ready-to-eat meal packets. Your kids would just need to put the packet in a pot of hot water and cook it.
Tip: Your children can't make rotis? They can substitute them with brown bread. Or you can buy packets of methi rotis from the local grocery store. Some supermarkets also sell frozen rotis that need to be defrosted and heated to eat.
