"Tie a saree around your waist; it will tuck your tummy in!" suggests your mother.
But do maternity belts work?
While you are pregnant, your abdomen gets stretched because of the growing uterus. After delivery, the muscles become loose and as a result, your tummy looks flabby.
Using abdominal binders to tuck your tummy doesn't really help. Yes, it does hold the loose tummy tight inside so that it looks flat. However these belts don't actually help you lose the flab.
What if I had a C-Section?
A maternity belt is alright even in the case of a C-section. You can start tying it, once the pain subsides and your stitches are safely dressed.
After a C-section, you may have difficulty while moving around or turning while sitting and sleeping. Abdomen binders support to your abdominal muscles till you are ready to start exercising.
Make sure you wear a stretchable panty and then tie the binder around your abdomen, so that the stitches are not ruptured in any way.
The only way to bring back those curves is through a regular exercise routine. In case of a normal delivery, it is safe to start exercising six weeks after delivery. However, it is always best to check with your doctor first.
