Checkups confirmed that your hubby has a fertility problem.
Wondering what is your next best option of conceiving?
If the problem of infertility stems from the fact that the sperms can't reach your eggs, artificial insemination of your husband's sperm is the next best option to consider.

Artificial insemination, also called as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), injects your husband's sperm directly into your uterus, thereby increasing the chances of the sperm meeting the egg.
You can go for IUI if:
1. You have a cervical mucus problem.
The cervical mucus basically enables you to get pregnant, as it nurtures the sperm and speeds up the progress of the sperm toward the egg. However, if it is scanty or hostile to the sperm, it can block the ovulation.
In this scenario, an IUI helps to bypass the cervix and is injected directly into the uterine cavity.
2. Your partner cannot ejaculate into your vagina.
This usually happens due to an inability to maintain erection or vaginismus (spasm of vaginal muscles because of which vaginal penetration is not possible).
3. Your hubby suffers from retrograde ejaculation.
This just means that the sperm goes back into the bladder instead of coming out of the penis.
4. You suffer from other infertility problems.
These could be a scanty egg production or other unexplained infertility problems.

How Does the Insemination Happen?
Timing of this process is of utmost importance. Doing at anytime will only lower it's chances of success. This has to be done when you are fertile, that is, when the egg is in the fallopian tube.
To pinpoint your fertility, you will have to first undergo an ultrasound.
You may also be injected with a medication called HMG so that you can superovulate. This will make you produce more than one egg, thereby increasing your chances of conceiving.
After this procedure, your husband will be asked to masturbate and collect his sperm in a clean jar. It is preferable to do it in clinic than at home. Again for this, your spouse will be asked to abstain from intercourse for two to three days to get an optimal count of sperm.

Only in extreme cases where the husband feels psychologically blocked to perform in a clinic, will the option of doing it from home be allowed.
The collected sperm is then taken to a lab and washed before injecting it into you. The sperm washing process takes around an hour. After this process, the active and mobile sperms will be injected into your uterine cavity.
