Create Your Own Style
Don't squeeze your pocket dry by hiring a fancy interior designer. Instead visit some interior stores a couple of weeks prior to renovating your kitchen.
You could also look for designs in catalogues too. See what you like and come up with a style of your own.
Eliminate the Middleman
A designer, though convenient, will only strain your pocket. He has to bring in his own carpenters, plumbers and electricians, plus his own fees. What's more... you might not be happy with his choice of tiles and other material.
Avoid all that added expense by directly hiring a carpenter. Of course, make sure he takes you to some of the houses where he has done work earlier. And don't forget to bargain!
Do it Yourself
Explain to the carpenter what kind of design you wish to have and ask him to tell you the quantity of material you need. Then go ahead and choose the tiles, laminates, plumbing and electrical fittings yourself.
"From tiles and laminates to the fittings, I chose and bargained for all the material myself. Then I had my carpenter pick it up directly from the suppliers," says Dextryl Ferrao, who wanted value for his money.
Don't Compromise
Choose good quality tap fittings from brands like Marc or Jaguar. You will be using it everyday so you don't want the chrome plating peeling off.
Make sure to get a good plumber and electrician. If there is any problem later on, you will have to break out all the tiles.
