"Give your kitchen that warm, country feel with colours like beiges and browns. You could have solid wood cabinets in chestnut, ash, beech and cherry too," says Interior Designer, Joanna Gomes. Wooden laminates, which are cheaper, are an excellent option too.

The perfect way to complete the look is with a rough, stone finish for the walls and floor.

Instead of the usual stainless steel sink, try a handcrafted basin with an ornate brass tap. You could also conceal the chimney with a wooden covering.

If you have a large kitchen, try something different like an island cum dining table. Use the area under the island for storage. Include a couple of wooden chairs around and don't forget little chequered tie-up cushions for them.

Stretch out the window area. There is nothing like natural light streaming in while you prepare a scrumptious meal.

Add that special flavour with thematic accessories like a bundle of garlic cloves or a string of red chillies. And for all you wine lovers, a wooden wine rack would definitely add to that quaint touch.
