You can't live in a cabin by the lake but wouldn't it be lovely if your living room could resemble one?
Well, if that is fine for you, read on to find out how you can transform the look of your living room with that rustic touch.

Mellow Mood
The idea is to use subtle, underplayed colours. Warm beige, tan, rich brown, stone grey, cream, ivory and even subtle green are just perfect. Stay away from brighter colours like red and blue as they are more contemporary.
Choose neutral colour paint for the walls. Then highlight one wall with a white trellis. Hang up creepers and intertwine them around the lattice. If yours is a living cum dining room, the trellis would make a great partition.
Try having a stone wall behind the seating area. Large grey or muddy brown stones with a rough finish would work well.
Warm and Inviting
Give your home that warm feel, with dark wooden flooring. Try woods like walnut, kempas, teak or merbau. For lighter wood flooring, throw in a shaggy chocolate brown rug to complement it.
If you are worried about maintaining wooden flooring, you could opt for laminate flooring. It costs a whole lot less too.
Asian tiles has a new range of Vitrified Rustic tiles, which are available in colours like Gemstone Black, Mountain Beige, Mountain Tan and Gemstone Gres. You can even use these tiles for your patio or balcony.
Country Style
If you are willing to make a couple of radical changes, here's what you can do. Instead of regular doorways, you can have cobbled archways with French doors. The windows could follow the same pattern with panelled glass panes or vented shutters.
In front of the seating area you could have a make-belief fireplace. The fireplace could either be made of stone or raw, but treated, wood. Throw in a couple of rafters. You don't ever have to light it up, you know.
Place a couple of photographs or an interesting antique on the mantle above the fireplace.
