Very often we buy furniture without really thinking where we are going to put it. But if you go out to buy furniture keeping in mind where it is going to be put, you can utilise certain spaces that usually go to waste.
For instance, you can have a unit with a couple of glass shelves and a wooden frame fitted into an L-shaped corner. You can use it to display curios, family photographs and more. Low seating also works great in such corners.

Niches in walls should be utilised to their full potential. Have a carpenter make a wall unit or concealed storage to fit into the niche exactly.
5. Have as much open space as possible.
It is important to clear out as much floor space as possible when you are entertaining. This way your guests can move or dance about freely without getting in each other's way.
The centre of the living room should be free from large pieces of furniture. So if your sofa set is generally placed in the centre of the room, push it to the side. The centre table too can be used as a side table for drinks, snacks and napkins.
When Guests Arrive...
Here are some other ways to make space for your guests.
- If you do not have enough chairs and sofas, you could hire them from a party organiser or even borrow a few from your neighbour.
- Set up a buffet table for your guests rather than lay out the dining table. The chairs around the dining table can be used as extra seating.
- You might want to set up the bar in one corner of the living room. Arrange for seating around the bar too for those who want to keep refilling their glasses.
