And where Hollywood led the way, Bollywood was not far behind either. In 2002, Aamir Khan divorced Reena, his wife of over 15 years.
Two years later, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh ended their 12-year marriage. Not to mention the twice divorced Sanjay Dutt - from first wife Richa Sharma to second wife Rhea Pillai.
The reasons for the failure of these unions have been many. From 'they drifted apart', to 'another love' and in some cases an extra-marital affair.
But the common underlying factor is the fact that the romance simply died out. And despite their celeb status, these men and women couldn't keep the romance going.
According to adman Prahlad Kakkar, "A marriage does not need great romance. Marriage is the easy part; the difficult part is to keep the romance going, and with it the marriage too." Kakkar suggests to make a big deal of nothing, give 'her' the space to breathe and grow, and adjust your life to suit hers.

With his trademark in-your-face attitude Kakkar says, "I am shit scared of my wife and I have no qualms in admitting it. It is simpler for me to be lord and master outside the home. More than romance, it is necessary to demonstrate that your wife is the most important person in your life."
For Samir Sheth, businessman and a regular on the Mumbai social circuit, romance is all about conversations. "My wife Palak is more romantic than me and she knows how to set the mood with lots of candles. She likes to surprise me as well on my birthday."
