Psychologist Dr. Leena Bahrani says, "If ex-couples do end up talking to each other, it is usually the circumstances and situations like children or a common friend circle that ensures it."
In fact there are quite a few real life couples who get along well after their split.
Getting over your ex depends completely on the circumstances and reasons why you split, the amount of time you were together and the intensity of your relationship while you were together.
Here is a look at three different relationships and how each of the couples has handled the situation.
The Ex-Boyfriend
Kareena Gopalan, 24, Ad-executive and Ravi Verma, 23, Media Professional were dating for three years.
"I was devasted and completely broken when we broke up. I wondered if I could ever go on without him," says Kareena.
But it worked out well for the both of them because after getting over the initial hurt and pain, Kareena and Ravi have now become the best of friends.
Lover to Friend: Kareena and Ravi gave each other two months after which both of them decided to sort things out.
They talked about the reasons they broke up and realised that they were better off as friends.
"I realised that I found a better friend in my ex than he was as a boyfriend," says Kareena.
