Here are some of the most common period myths and the truth behind each of them.
1. If you bleed in clots you will find it difficult to conceive.
Bleeding in clots has nothing to do with you conceiving. Small blood clots are normal during your period.
However, if you bleed in big clots that you may probably have another menstrual problem. This can be diagnosed after a sonography.
2. You cannot have sex during your periods because you need to sleep away from your husband.
You can lead a normal sex life even during your periods. The only concern here is the mess factor and you need to be very hygienic, but otherwise you are good to go.

3. If you have continuous irregular periods for a few months after your first period, it is bad for your reproductive health.
Your periods will take between six months to a year to regularise into a set cycle. During the first few months you could probably have your monthly's earlier or later than usual, but that is absolutely normal for the first year.
It has no adverse effect on your reproductive health at all.
4. If you are menopausal you cannot conceive.
This is untrue simply because you do get your periods (even though they may be irregular), if you are menopausal. This means that your body does release the egg and if you have unprotected sex, you can conceive. Only after you have reached menopause and your periods stop completely, you will not be able to conceive.
5. A hot shower during your period will aggravate the flow.
This is a grandmother's myth and holds no truth in it at all. Infact hot water relaxes your muscles and eases your stomach cramps.
