Think again.
Along with all the other problems you are likely to encounter, period irregularity could also be one of them.
We find out why does this happen.
Remember
When it comes to irregularity of menstruation there certain factors to keep in mind:
- Dr. P. Changulani, Gynecologist, Apollo Hospital informs us that since menses are hormone related, what affects your hormones is likely to have an adverse effect upon your menses as well.
- There is a direct relation between estrogen levels and the bone density. Oestrogen increases the absorption of calcium and it's absorption into the bone.
Dr. Pratima Chipalkatti, Gynecologist, Bombay Hospital says, "Around the age of 30 and 35 your body produces the perfect amount of oestrogen because of which your bone density is maximum at this point of time. From then onwards the calcium level in your body decreases."

Anorexia and Menses
If you are anorexic you are likely to suffer from amenorrhea. This is a condition where your period either stops or becomes negligible.
If you are worried that your cycle will never come back to normalcy you need not worry as mostly you will retain your menses once you come to a proper weight.

Too Skinny
While being skinny is not as bad as being anorexic, you may face some period problems nonetheless. Dr. Chipalkatti explains that some oestrogen is always saved in the fat tissue. Hence when you lose too much of weight you tend to lose oestrogen as well.
Apart from that, even having a bad diet can affect your menses.
Dr. Changuli says, "Many a times you lose weight due to hormonal changes which in turn affects your menses as well."
For example, if you have hyperthyroidism your thyroid glands are super active because of which you tend to lose weight, at the same time the hormonal changes in your body affect your menses.
