What is Early Menopause?
When your ovaries stop functioning and produce no more eggs, you are likely to have your menopause soon. In some women, the ovaries stop functioning as early as the age of 30. Otherwise, it happens by 40.
If you stop menstruating completely before the age of 45 then it is considered as premature menopause.
Why Can You Have an Early Menopause?
Remember, an early onset of menopause can happen due to the following reasons:
- Genetic factors
- Constant exposure to strong radiation
As far as the genetic factor is concerned, you may experience early menopause in case there is some chromosome abnormality or if you are born with low egg count.
Premature menopause can also be caused by stress.
Also, radiation treatments like chemotherapy can result in the early onset of menopause.
How to Treat?
Make sure you get a blood test on the third day of your period in order to check your hormonal levels. The blood test will be followed by an ultrasound to check if your ovaries have shrunk.
Once you get a confirmation that you are heading towards menopause, you can probably go for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) where you will be given a series of drugs to boost your hormone levels.
Can I Conceive?
Yes, you will be able to conceive. All you need to do is to go for an egg donation. The eggs are taken from another woman and will be combined with your partner's sperm.
The embryo is then placed in your uterus and you will be given pregnancy supporting drugs to sustain the pregnancy.
So make sure you don't ignore any of the symptoms. Visit your doctor to avoid any risks.
