Celebrity fitness trainer Rujuta Diwekar is all set to become a celebrity herself!
She's the one responsible for Kareena Kapoor's uber-hot look in Tashan. Naturally, she is the hot favourite among the silver screen divas up for an image makeover.
Rujuta believes that weight gain usually follows a change in lifestyle.
She says, "For instance, you go from studying (when you travel by bus/ train) to working (when you can afford to drive/ take a cab). Sometimes people put on weight after marriage because there is no time to cook meals like your mom did at home.
So gradually you put on weight, one to two kilos every year. It's called 'creeping obesity'".
"Before you try and lose weight, remember this. You didn't gain that weight overnight, don't expect to lose it overnight. The healthy amount of weight to lose in a week is 500 gms to 1 kg," Rujuta adds.
Here's Rujuta's 7-day fitness formula to getting past that first week with a brand new diet and fitness routine.
Day 1 - Draw up a food chart
No, don't go looking up fancy cookbooks for healthy recipes. The first day is all about watching yourself.
Observe your timings, activities and eating patterns and fill them into a chart like the one below.
| Time | Activity | Meal |
| 7:00 to 8:30 am | Wake up + get ready for work | A cup of tea |
| 8:30 to 9:30 am | Travel by train | |
| 9:30 to 2:00 pm | Work | 2 cups of tea |
| 2:00 to 3:00 pm | Lunch break | Palak paneer + 2 parathas + soft drink |
| 3:00 to 7:00 pm | Work | 2 cups of tea |
| 7:00 to 8:00 pm | Travel by train | |
| 8:00 to 10:00 pm | Hang out at a coffee shop | Coffee + mini pizza |
| 10:00 to 12:00 pm | Watch a movie | Mutton curry + pilaf + vegetables |
Be realistic. If you have been eating way too out of the line, don't make a chart that will reduce you to lettuce leaves and warm water every day!
It is important to realise that you cannot go hungry up until lunchtime. You need to fit in small but nutritious meals into your routine. And of course, breakfast is a must.
If you starve yourself from dinner until lunch the next day, the food you eat at lunchtime will get converted into fat.
This is because your body thinks that you might not get food again for a very long time and is trying to create reserves for you.
Also, since you are on the go between 8 to 10 am, you need food to keep you going. Worse still, an empty stomach leads to bad breath.
