But it does affect us in other ways. Did you know that tying your saree or dhoti too tightly or chewing tobacco or gutka can lead to skin cancer?
What Causes Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is mainly caused because of sun exposure. However, in India, we do not have so much incidence of skin cancer because of sun exposure as the ultra violet rays are not that strong in India.
So does that mean you don't have to worry about getting this disease? Not really.
You can also get skin cancer:
- If you tie your saree or dhoti too tightly for ages then the cells in that area will deplete due to friction. As a result, your body will start producing more cells to overcome the depletion. This is called as granuloma. The excess cells then develop into a cancer.
- If you have some ulcer, which has not healed for some time, you may get a skin cancer.
- If you chew excessive tobacco. Tobacco chewing leads to oral cancer and lip cancer. Consequently, it spreads to other parts of your body and you can get a skin cancer.
Apart from that, Dr. Jaishree Sharad, Consultant Cosmetic Dermatologist from Skinfiniti, says that proximity to a coal and tar manufacturing factory or an arsenic factory could also make you more prone to skin cancer.
