What Is This All About?
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is an illness wherein you feel drained out and are unable to continue your daily activities with the same vim that you used to. Even resting won't help without proper treatment. The illness could continue for as long as six months or more.
How Do I Know If It is CFS?
The symptoms of CFS vary from person to person. Some of the most common ones are;
- Prolonged fatigue (six months or more) with a slower pace of daily activities
- Disturbed sleep
- Joint pains
- Headaches
- Muscle pain
Depression If you have been experiencing any of these symptoms for about six months or more, then contact a doctor.
Why Did It Happen?
Here are some common reasons associated with CFS;
- Hormonal imbalance
- Stressful work hours
- Problems with your immune system
- Blood pressure
- Anxiety
- Viral infections
How Can I Get Better?
Depending on your symptoms, the doctor will first rule out the possibility of other illnesses. Once this is done he will start you on an appropriate treatment.
De-stressing activities such as yoga, meditation, relaxation and stress reduction techniques will also help.
For instance, if you have had continuous joint pains, then your doctor will first check and treat you for conditions like osteoporosis or other deficiency illnesses.
In case your illness is due to anxiety, you may be advised to practise stress relieving techniques.
If it is a hormonal imbalance, then you may be given hormone supplements.
