Signs and Symptoms
Migraine is one of the most unbearable forms of headaches. It can hinder your daily activities. A migraine attack is accompanied by others symptoms as well.
80%-90% of people suffer from common migraine, without a visual aura. 7-10% of people suffer from migraine with visual aura. Here, before the headache the person sees spots and flashes before their eyes.
A migraine attack may last for anything between 4 - 48 hours. Medication or proper sleep may stop the attack. The frequency of the attacks varies between people and depends on what you do or don't do to control the trigger factors.
There may be warning signs, also known as prodrome, before a migraine attack. You may feel low, become quiet and restless. Prodrome can occur even one to two days before the migraine attack.
Treatment
Migraine is diagnosed by clinical history (asking patients' questions). As of now, there are no tests anywhere to diagnose migraine.
Your doctor will prescribe medication depending on the frequency and severity of the attack. There are long-term preventive medications, which should be taken for two - three months, until you learn to control the triggers.
So long as you control the trigger factors, you will be able to keep migraine under control. So make sure you eat healthy and on time and sleep at the same time every day.
If you are prone to migraine, you should have a good breakfast and not fast. Also wear sunglasses while going out and avoid noisy places.
As migraine is often genetic, it cannot be completely cured.
However, advances in medicine might be possible to control it through genetic modification in future.
