At the Door

The customs for the first night start even before the couple enter the bedroom. One of the traditions keeps the couple stranded outside the door until the bride gives the youngsters from her in-laws some bribe to move out of the way.

Now that gives the bride a reason to go to her in-laws house with her hands full!

The Grand Bed

It doesn't matter if you are allergic to flowers, your bed for the first night has to resemble a garden in spring.

Decorating the bed takes a lot of effort and money. Though it is traditionally done by the groom's relatives, you can get it done in a hotel room by the staff.

Dressed Up

Your Wedding outfits weigh some kilos. You have spent the entire day in it and now you are expected to sit in your room, waiting for your husband to take it off!

Oh yes! According to some traditions you must remain in your wedding outfit and wait for your husband to arrive in the room and lift up your veil.

Peek-a-Boo

After your husband lifts up your veil he must get you a gift. Why? Well for seeing your pretty face. The Punjabis call this mooh dikhayee, which literally translates into "viewing your face". The gift could be anything from a gold ring to a diamond set.
