Revamp your terrace or even your garden the right way this season and make it a great summer hangout.

Printed Pretty
Funk up your terrace for the summer with bright bold colours and vibrant prints. Go with colours like turquoise or peacock blue, pumpkin orange, golden yellow, fuchsia and even lime green.
Flea markets and exhibitions boast a range of canvas cushion covers with summery prints- florals, stripes, polka dots, paisleys... you name it. Don't be afraid to combine a couple of prints to give it that kitsch look.
Take It Easy
Lightweight furniture is what you need. Opt for cane or foldable wooden chairs and tables. You could also place a couple of mats out on the floor. Try multicoloured ones with delicate zari borders. Thin easily washable carpets are another great idea if cane mats aren't too comfortable.
There is no better way to relax than with a couple of too.
Sunscreen
If sunbathing doesn't interest you too much cover up the terrace.
The most common way to cover up the terrace is by using asbestos sheets but this is a bad idea. These sheets only attract more heat. Use one of your old cotton bed sheets instead.
Include a pedestal fan to keep you cool during the day.
Bright and Beautiful
Tall potted plants are a great way to bring the outdoors in. Most varieties of crotons, small palm trees as well as flowering plants and cacti grow well outside. Plant them in white stone planters and line them along the walls of the terrace.
Create an attractive arrangement by entwining creepers around the grills of the balcony.
You can use the branches of the sturdy plants to hang up tiny lanterns. You can get pretty coloured glass lanterns with brass framework to lend a soft glow to the terrace in the evenings.
Perk Up the Garden
- Use colourful striped beach umbrellas. They look chic and give you the cover you need.
- If you have enough space in your garden, try an inflatable swimming pool. The kids will love it.
- A white lattice grid would look great. Hang up your kid's artwork or even flowering creepers on it.
Now go ahead... enjoy yourself rather than cringe indoors!
