Don't worry… you can help yourself heal quickly and get back to normal life sooner than you expected.
Comfortably Numb
During the surgery, you will not feel pain because of the anaesthetics used. In fact, a C-section has become so common these days that it is treated like a normal delivery.
However, post a caesarean, you will be asked to stay at the hospital, for at least three days. You will also be put on an IV drip.
When the anaesthesia wears out, there will be pain. So your doctor will prescribe pain killers to help you deal with it. Don't worry, the pain will be tolerable.
Alert Your Gynaecologist When…
- There is bleeding from the wound.
- There is a pus infection.
Your doctor will prescribe antibiotic creams. Usually, there is no dressing required for the wound.
Activity Levels
You will need a whole lot of TLC (tender loving care) to recover at the earliest. If you live in a nuclear set up, hire a maid who will be able to take care of you 24x7.
Keep your activity levels to a bare minimum.
Also, make sure you don't lift anything heavy. Carry your baby is fine but nothing heavier.
You can resume a healthy sex life after four to six weeks of your C-section. However, this could vary, so ask your gynaecologist for the green signal.
Hale and Hearty
Eating well and eating healthy is the best way to heal soon. A protein-rich diet is highly recommended. Make milk and eggs a part of your staple diet.
Use any talcum powder to keep the area dry as sweat could aggravate rashes.
Also, drink lots of water to avoid dehydration.
Usually, the scar takes about two months to heal completely. The upper skin wounds will heal within 10 days of the surgery.
Also, when the wound is drying, it will itch. Refrain from itching as it will increase the chances of bleeding.
Yes, there will be discomfort but with a little care, you could be up and about in no time. Also, every time it starts to hurt, just look at your precious angel… that ought to keep you going!
