Sing Along
What would you say to recording your little nightingale's voice? Let her pick her favourite song from one of her CDs and practice it for a while.
Once she is done, take her to a recording studio at the mall. They charge about Rs.9 per minute to record and will give you the recorded CD.
If you can't locate a recording studio close by, just tape her voice on your home PC and transfer it onto a CD. This way you can record any amount of songs she wants. You could jazz it up with some karaoke music.
Sweet Somethings
This one is for mama's little helper. If your kid enjoys cooking, bring out that chocolate brownie or gajar halwa (carrot sweet) recipe and go shopping together.
If she is too young to chop up the stuff, you can do it for her. But allow her to do all the mixing.
Then finally let her decorate the cake and write something special on it with icing for her dad.
Virtual Presents
So what if your little fellow isn't interested in cakes or songs. He probably loves playing Road Rash on his PC.
Get him one of those virtual games where he can build his own customised Ferrari or a dream home. His mommy will definitely be proud.
But if computer games aren't his thing, bring out the building blocks and let him use his imagination to create the perfect gift. Clay dough is another cool idea.
Treasure Hunt
Don't your kids just love surprises? Well, this idea will build up the excitement some more.
Your kids can prepare Valentine's Day baskets for each other filled with goodies - toys, books, CDs or chocolates.
Now here's the fun part... let them make out treasure maps or trails that will lead their sibling to the gift.
It could start with a note under the pillow that reads 'Go to the YCBLONA'. They need to unscramble the word to find the next clue.
That's probably the simplest clue. Let them think up more complicated ones.
Valentine Spoof
Your teenage kids could make a home movie depicting you and your husband's love story. But you will have to help them with the funny details.
Tell them how their dad wore bell-bottoms and had side locks like Elvis or how you were so shy the first time you met him.
The kids will enjoy doing a spoof on how the two of you fell in love. It will have you laughing so hard... if you are a good sport that is.
Quiz Master
You know how kids just love being the boss. Well, here is your chance to indulge them.
Ask your kid to write down different quiz questions for you and your husband like 'What is dad's favourite dish?' or 'What do you have to do to make mom real angry?' Let him put them in separate bowls - one labelled 'Mum' and the other 'Dad'.
Now set up the scoreboard and let the game begin. You will find out how much you and your hubby really know about each other.
You can think up more ideas. Just make sure that they are simple enough for the kids to do by themselves.
