Eventually, it became a habit for him and now, he watches television for the major chunk of the day and he does not even go out to play. But is this healthy?
See how television can affect your child's health and what you can do to prevent him from becoming a T.V. addict.
Your Child's Eyes
Dr. A. Sanjana, ophthalmologist from L. H. Hiranandani Hospital says, "Watching too much television can strain the muscles of your child's eye. It can cause fatigue and dryness of the eye. She may have problems while focusing on an object, or observing something.
Dryness of the eye will make your child more prone to eye allergies and infections and can even cause irritation. If your kid has been watching a lot of T.V. and rubs his eyes often, then visit a doctor. It could be a sign of dry eye.
While watching T.V., you also tend to blink less. The normal blink rate is 16 to 18 blinks per minute.
Also, background illumination is very necessary. You need to have normal or at least, a dim light while watching television.
If she has recently started to sit close to the T.V. or complains of poor vision while trying to read the board at school, then she may have a problem. So, take her to an ophthalmologist.
His Physical Health
Tara Deshmukh, mother of six-year-old Sunaina says, "My daughter used to watch television throughout the day and she never went out to play. She had no physical activity whatsoever and I was worried."
As a solution, Tara set a time table for her daughter, wherein she could watch television for only an hour or so. The rest of the time was divided between her study time, play time, drawing and badminton classes.
