Dr. Bijal M Shrivastava, paediatrician from L H Hiranandani Hospital says, "The prescribed hours to watch television is just one or two hours in a day. Anything beyond this, is considered excessive."
Television has a very bad impact as far as your child's physical health is concerned. If he watches too much of television and does not get enough physical activity, then he is likely to grow obese.
Also, while watching television, kids end up binging on junk food, which may have a very bad effect on their health. Overall, their food habits get altered. This could lead to childhood obesity.
Children, especially in the age group of 5-9 years, are extremely impressionable. Scary or violent programmes may affect them and prevent them from sleeping.
Television can also have an impact on their behaviour. They are likely to turn more stubborn.

"If your child is watching cartoon network the entire day, then there is a possibility of him turning into a cartoon himself," warns Dr. Dayal Mirchandani, psychologist from Behavioural Science Foundation.
Dr. Dayal explains that children, especially in the age group of 5 to 9 years, watch cartoon network more than any other age group. They also tend to imitate the cartoon characters to the extent that they even speak like them.
