Have you been experiencing a burning sensation when you urinate? If yes and you are sexually active, then it is time to get yourself checked for gonorrhoea.
Gonorrhoea is an infection caused by the bacteria Neisseria Gonorrhoeae. Unprotected sex is one of the most common reasons for this venereal disease. However, you can also get it if you have several sexual partners.
Remember, women are usually asymptomatic to gonorrhoea. However there are a few body signs that you could look out for.

Here are few signals that your body will give you in case you have gonorrhoea.
- Burning sensation when you urinate
- Pain when you urinate
- Severe pain in the lower abdomen
- Foul vaginal discharge. The discharge may even turn yellow or green
- In rare cases, you may experience irregular bleeding
In case you have oral sex with a partner who has the disease, then you could get a sore throat. The only symptoms of the disease is a sore throat followed by fever. Yes Gonorrhoea is an STI that spreads through oral sex.

Gonorrhoea can also cause infertility. If untreated, the disease will spread from the cervix to the fallopian tubes. This causes scarring on the tubes leading to infertility.
This can also lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which causes inflammation of the fallopian tubes that could affect fertility.
If you are pregnant and have gonorrhoea, then you could pass on the disease to your baby. Your baby could also get an eye infection, which must be treated to avoid blindness.
