"However, if you are not having sex up for any reason, but still crave for it, you are inviting trouble," warns sexologist Dr. Rajan Bhonsle.
Repression of sexual desires can cause depressive symptoms. This is because of an increase of stress hormones in your body.
Gynaecologist Dr. Ranjana Dhanu also warns of vaginismus, a condition where you could be pathological afraid of any kind of insertion into your vagina. If you have this condition, you would not be able to insert even a tampon into your vagina, due to the sudden contraction.
"In fact," says Dr. Dhanu, "2.5 to 3% couples have unconsummated marriages or don't marry at all due to this problem."
The Solution
If you crave for sex, and are getting depressed due to the lack of it, or you have a phobia with regards to sex, and hence are avoiding it, communication with a good psychiatrist can help you.
Dr Rao says, "Even though the situation could be the same, the feeling of every woman differs. Hence, there is no one way to deal with this problem. Hence, counselling sessions is imperative for you."
The Outlet
"Masturbation is a wonderful outlet for both men and women. Through masturbation you can get the pleasure of sex without actually having intercourse," says Dr. Bhonsle.
Masturbation gives you the capacity to fantasise and also gives you the advantage of understanding your sexuality in a deeper manner.
