There are a number of ways to promote a healthy glow without exposing your skin to harmful rays. We tell you how…
Hydrate Yourself
That doesn't mean drinking cola or caffeine! Carbonated drinks contain high concentration of sodium that retains fluid. You need water that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins and fluids lost to sweating.
Get a Facial
Opt for a summer facial as it deeply cleanses, improves circulation, smoothes and moisturises the skin. Choose fresh fruits for your facial and steer clear of greasy creams.
"A fruit facial will enrich, moisturise and tone tired, dehydrated skin. As an added benefit, fruits are also a great source of antioxidants, which can protect skin from damaging UV rays," says dermatologist Dr. Omeed Memar.
Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise
It is essential to cleanse, tone and moisturise daily. Finding the right products for summer is essential. Choose a soap-free cleanser and follow-up with an alcohol-free toner. Or use plain rosewater.
Also, avoid creamy, oil-containing moisturisers and go for a lighter, oil-free formulation in summer. Don't skip the moisturising step as your skin needs more water than anything else in summer because you lose most of your body salts by sweating.
Exfoliate
Avoid scrubs that contain walnut shells or apricot pits, as they can cause microscopic tears in the skin that can ultimately damage skin. If you prefer something on the natural side, then concoct your own exfoliant.
Mix half cup dry oatmeal, three tablespoons almond oil, one tablespoon finely ground sea salt or cornmeal and one-fourth teaspoon fresh mint with enough warm water to form a paste. Apply in circular motions on the face avoiding the eye area. Exfoliate twice a week.
