Back to Books
After failing in exams, she may not want to study all over again. Allow her to take a break; you can take her for a short trip. But make sure she gets back to her books after the vacations.
You can also expect her to spend more time at home while her friends are going to school or college. In such cases, you can get her involved in some extra curricular activities that she loves.
This will help her refresh and once she is out of the "failure mode" you can get her back to books. However, if she refuses to study at all, find the reason why she does not want to study. You can seek a psychologist's help and give her a counselling session.
Does the Rod Help?
Try as much as possible to avoid hitting or using foul language on her. If you hit her she is likely to become more rebellious, lack confidence and could have depression. Also, never taunt or be sarcastic while dealing with her
Throwing Tantrums
"What is the point in reappearing? The cut off may be high the next time too." You may get this is the type of question from her. In this case, you need to be firm and make it clear that she has to study and there is no excuse for it. You could enrol her in coaching classes or private tuitions for that particular subject.
Going for Re-Evaluation?
Does re-evaluation really help? Yogesh Funde, a moderator with Mumbai University says, "It is better to give papers for re-evaluation. You will be given a photocopy of the paper so that you can get an idea of the marking system. If there is any unmarked answer, you can claim that score."
If the student has failed, the principal, moderator and examiner will analyse the paper. If she has failed by a small margin, she could be given the grace marks and made to pass.
So stop playing blame games with the child. If she has failed, it is no use moping about it. Focus on what can be done than what has happened.
