But what about the emotional rollercoaster ride post delivery?
Are you prepared for it?
Emotionally Warped
Almost all first-time-mothers face a sense of depression. During the first trimester, a hormone called beta hCG is produced in your body.
This hormone stimulates/causes vomiting, anxiety and irritability. The second and third trimesters are the good periods when they start glowing and look cheerful. However, beneath all this there is a constant sense of anxiety.
The common worries are whether you will have a normal baby, whether you can endure the pain while delivery.
You may also worry excessively about the birth procedure, whether to opt for C-section, breastfeeding, managing the baby and work and so on.
Causes of Post Natal Depression
To begin with, you might be unsure of factors like if you will be able to take care of your child? The hormonal changes does not really help your state of mind.
The stress of looking after the baby, lack of sleep, or a traumatic experience while delivering a child could leave you disturbed.
This might lead to Post Natal Depression (PND). PND usually is experienced within the first month following childbirth.
Episodes of feeling 'blue' might also be a result of emergency caesareans and difficult labours. Also, depression might also be a result of nerve compression while childbirth.
