Losing weight is definitely a no-no. As far as possible you must not have any weight fluctuations as it can have a direct effect on your baby.
How Much is My Ideal Weight Gain?
Weight gain during pregnancy depends on your pre-pregnancy weight. In case your body has a tendency to gain weight, you will gain weight without any problems.
While you are pregnant your blood volume increases, your uterus grows bigger in size and you have fat deposits in your breasts and around your hips. Generally in the first trimester you are likely to lose weight.
This is because of possible nausea or morning sickness. In this trimester, you are not expected to gain more weight. At the most you will gain 1 kg or so.

It is necessary to gain weight from the second trimester on. You must gain weight. Throughout your pregnancy, you must gain anywhere between 12 to 15 kgs.
This can be spilt as 5 to 6 kgs in your second trimester and 5-6 kgs in your third trimester.
If you are expecting twins then you can gain weight anywhere between 20 to 22 kgs in your entire pregnancy. This is because your uterus expands in size more than it does in case you have a single pregnancy.
