They say laughter is the best medicine…How true is this statement?
Does laughing really make you feel better? Find out the answers to these questions and how you can use laughter as a therapy.
Laughter therapy is being practiced by many people, mostly senior citizens. In this therapy, you are supposed to do some mild warm up exercises and then put your hands up in the air and laugh loudly.
Why Should You Laugh?
Laughing helps you stay happy while the exercises may cure you of any body aches and pains that you may have.
Janaki Krishnan, 60, says, "Laughing is the best way to keep you healthy. I have been going to my local laughter club for the past eight years. Since then I have noticed changes in my health. My blood pressure has come in control and I needed reading glasses. But now I do not need the glasses any more. I just use one for short sightedness."
Remember, laughter therapy is generally done early in the morning. So, it helps you get into the habit of getting up early which is healthy for your body.
Heal Ailments
Dr. Dinesh Dedhia, Surgeon from Jaydish Nursing Home says, there is no proven theory that laughter therapy can help in curing ailments. But it can help in increasing your appetite, get better sleep and of course get your stress levels down.
How?
The answer is very simple. You may feel that your ailments are getting cured because when you laugh your body releases hormones and "feel good" endorphins which keep you happy. When you are happy, you do not worry too much.
