Body Type
Cut-offs go perfectly on a slim figure. Since they are of mid length and tapering towards your knee, your hips would be given emphasis making them look wider.
If your hips are proportionate to your body, you are the lucky one - cut-offs will make you look a million bucks.
If you are on the plumper side then you might want to keep away from them, since they highlight your plumpness and make you look shorter. If you have chubby calves, it is advisable that you do not wear them as your calves would attract unnecessary attention.
Tall Or Short
Blessed with a good height? Cut-offs will enhance that slim tall look of yours.
If you are short, follow 'try before you buy' policy. Short pants and peddle-pushers may look cute on you, but cut-offs might just have the opposite effect. If you are slim and short, avoid cut-offs as they may make you look like a kid.
To Suit Your Purpose
For a rock-star look, take a pair of old denim and cut them off just above the knee. Let the strings hang as they would add to the rugged look. Team them up with a black top and a leather jacket and be a true rock star. Go a little farther for goth look and team the cut-off with heavy metal accessoties and more black leather.
To make cut-offs more contemporary, you can wear them with fitted t-shirts that come up to your waist or colourful cotton tops to give yourself a sporty look.
