As a Bengali bride, you have to prepare for the wedding with a snan ceremony, which takes place in the afternoon or late in the evening. After the ceremony, the bride wears the wedding dress presented by her in-laws.
Benaroshi
The typical Bengali bridal dress is a Benarasi silk red saree known as benaroshi, which is rich in zari work. If you want to opt for something different and trendy, go for a saree in georgette or chiffon. Even Kanjeevaram and Paithani sarees can be worn.
Style It!
Bengali designer, Nil of Dev 'r' Nil says, "The typical red saree looks beautiful. You can always play around with the material and the design as well. It need not necessarily be the traditional zari design." Opt for a saree in red silk with a jacquard border. You can also opt for kantha work.
Alta
Mehendi is commonly applied on hands and feet. A red coloured liquid known as alta - red powder mixed with water - is painted as a border on the feet. Small dots are painted on the palm of the hands and on the tips and the side of fingers .
