We tell you about the traditional absolutely must-haves in a Catholic bride's trousseau.
Designer Savio Jon says, "What goes into your trousseau these days depends completely on the bride's lifestyle and personality."
While your choice of clothes may vary depending on what you wear, there are a few traditional must-haves.
Among the Indian Catholics, the Goans and the Mangloreans have different customs that they follow.
Goa Ahoy!
Besides the usual clothes and things that you pack in your trousseau, an absolute must-have for a Goan bride is a red dress or a red saree. You will need this the day following the wedding. Make sure you pack one dress to wear at home and a formal one for the evening reception.
The colour symbolises fertility.
The groom's parents then divide the contents in half and send one half back to the bride's home, where it is distributed among friends and relatives.
Show Them the Gold
Your jewellery must contain a set of seven fine gold bangles that are ordered specifically for your wedding. Each bangle has specific design.
Another must-have is a mixture of red and green glass bangles that the bride usually wears on with her red dress or saree.
A gold set is a mandatory part of every Goan bride's trousseau.
A day before the wedding, the bride's family comes over to present the trousseau. They are welcomed by the groom's family and close friends.
