If your have the moolah, don't hesitate to hike the budget for your wedding trousseau. With a budget of Rs.1,00,000 - Rs.1,50,000, your trousseau can be expanded to also include those outfits, which you will wear after the wedding.
Fashion Designer Nalanda Bhandari says, "Today, a wedding trousseau not only includes your wedding outfits, but also the 11 or more shagun (token gift) outfits that a bride carries to her husband's house."
If you buy a couple of outfits from a high-end designer, don't hesitate to buy a few from a Prêt line too! No matter where you shop or for what, always maintain a balance.
Plan Your Trousseau
Remember, while planning your trousseau, keep two things in mind - family and comfort. Don't include clothes that will be inappropriate to wear in front of your in-laws.
Ideally, your wedding trousseau should include everything from sarees to a salwaar kameez, Indo-western and western outfits. A variety of clothes will give you plenty of options to wear for different occasions. Also include a mixture of casual, semi-formal and formals.
Model and actor Aditi Govitrikar had her wedding ghagra choli designed by designer Manish Malhotra. For the rest of her trousseau, she preferred a few semi-formals and mostly casual wear.
For the 11 outfits in your trousseau, let there be two sarees, around five salwaar kameezes, two sets of Indo-western and two western outfits. Filling your luggage with heavy Kanjeevaram sarees makes no sense if you will rarely wear them.
So don't waste time! Put on your sunglasses on and start trousseau hunting on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Make the most of the biggest and most important shopping event of your life.
