Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
Symptoms: Recurrent fever, night sweats, chills, weakness, weight-loss, a persistent cough and swollen glands.
Anyone who has multiple sex partners and has had unprotected sex.
Precautions: Always use a condom and avoid sharing syringes.
There is no cure as yet.
Hepatitis B and D
Symptoms: Loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomitting, itching all over the body and jaundice.
Anyone who has unprotected sex with an infected person.
Precautions: There is a vaccine that prevents Hepatitis B. It is given in three doses over several months. Always practice safe sex, avoid injecting drugs and sharing syringes, razors or toothbrushes.
All strains are curable.
Hepatitis C
Symptoms: Loss of appetite, weight-loss, diarrhoea, nausea, vomitting, fever and jaundice.
Anyone who has had unprotected sex with an infected person.
Precautions: Always practice safe sex, avoid injecting drugs and sharing syringes, razors or toothbrushes.
It is curable.
Gonorrhoea
Symptoms: Pain while urinating and vaginal discharge.
Anyone who has multiple sex partners and does not practice safe sex.
Precautions: Always practice safe sex.
It is curable.
Syphilis
Symptoms: Genital sores, fever, muscle and joint pains, sore throat, body rash (including your palms and soles), loss of appetite and swollen lymph nodes.
Anyone who has sex with an infected person. If you come in contact with the sore the infection passes onto you.
Precautions: Always practice safe sex.
It is curable.
