Since infants and toddlers may not be able to explain what irks them, you need to look out for signs and take immediate action.
Delayed Development of Eye Ducts
The eye ducts are channels which connect the eye to the nose. Generally, the ducts need to open up by six months of age.
The most common problem faced by your baby is delayed development of the eye ducts. Your baby's vision develops by the time she completes four months of age.
By this time she can see things clearly. It is possible that the eye ducts aren't fully developed by sixth month. In this situation, your baby's eyes may keep watering.
Know It
If your baby has completed six months of age and her eyes water without a reason, you need to take her to a paediatric ophthalmologist and get her eyes checked.
Retinopathy of Prematurity
Delay in development of retina and hence delayed development of vision is another possible complication.
In medical terms it is called as Retinopathy of prematurity. This condition is more common in premature babies.
