If your child's eyes are not focusing on the object that makes noise, but in another object, your child may be developing a squint.
A squint can be a result of misalignment of the eyes. This happens when there is lack of co-ordination between your baby's eye muscles.
Know It
If you have doubts that your baby is having a squint in her eyes, then you need to get it checked immediately.
Early detection can help is correcting the vision without having to undergo any major surgery.
Eye Injuries
Any kind of eye injury should not be taken lightly. Whenever your child has any injury to or near her eye, make sure you get her eyes thoroughly checked.
Know It
Look out for any redness or watering of your child's eyes. If the redness or watering does not stop in a day after the injury, you need to take her to the doctor immediately.
Eye Allergy
Children above one year of age are more prone to eye allergy. This is because they may touch anything and take the same hand to their eye.
Dust and pollution also contribute to eye allergies and infections.
Know It
If your child's eyelids stay stuck to each other when she wakes up or you find a white discharge coming continuously out of her eye corners, then probably she may be in for some kind of infection or allergy.
Apart from this, if you find her eyes watering continuously or if she complains of difficulty in seeing towards bright lights or has itchy eyes, then she may be in for an infection or an allergy.
Dos and Don'ts You Need to Follow:
- Whenever you are about to touch your child's eyes, make sure that your hands are clean.
- Never neglect any eye problem. Baby eyes are fragile. Consider each and every problem as important and get it checked.
- Take your child for regular eye check-ups. You need to get your baby's eyes checked as early as six months, then after she completes a year and then when she turns four years old.
- Applying kajal or kohl in the baby's eyes is an age-old tradition. However, it is better to avoid applying any kind of substance in your baby's eyes as it can lead to a possible infection or an allergy.
Take your child for regular eye check-ups and never take eye health and safety for granted. Early detection is very important and can save complications.
