Involving an interior designer will only mean added expense. You will be paying for the material and workmanship as well as the interior designer's expertise and supervision.
Also more reputed interior designers would naturally have a number of contractors working under them. Hence, you will be paying the wages of so many more people.

5. The work will just get prolonged.
An interior designer will give you an estimated date for the completion of the work. But more than often there will be a breach in deadlines. And the worst part is you can't do much about it but wait.

Also if you are paying the interior designer for the number of days of work involved, he is likely to fleece you. If he prolongs the work he will naturally make more money of you.
6. The designer and his workers won't care about your belongings.
If you are hiring an interior to do the basic tiling and structural changes and not for the furniture and furnishings, they are likely to take the work for granted.
For instance, if you already have furniture in your home that you want to use in the newly renovated place, they won't take care to see that it does not get damaged. You will have to supervise all this and make sure that paint doesn't fall on your furniture or tiles don't get chipped during carpentry work etc.

However, if you are hiring labour directly, here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
