Before you get out of your home to hunt for perfect bed and side tables to go, ask yourself:
How much space do I have?
The bedroom is that place where you can just relax and be yourself. Well, you can't really dance in front of the mirror or just do some exercises if you don't have enough space, now can you?
It is very important to buy furniture that suits your bedroom size. So as much as you want a four-poster bed you must realise that it may not suit your bedroom.

If your bedroom isn't too large, opt for a regular bed instead of a king-size bed. In case you have converted your one bedroom flat into two you might find the space still smaller. Go with a sofa cum bed or a divan that pulls out into a double bed.
Try a bunk bed in the kiddie bedroom. But if the ceiling is too low, a bunk bed may not be such a good idea.
If you don't have enough space for a large wardrobe, have a bed with storage underneath.

Where will the furniture go?
You need to pre-decide where your furniture will be placed. Accordingly you will have to measure the room. For instance, if you want your wardrobe to fit into the wall niche, the size of the niche is very important while choosing furniture.
Take into account the space required between the wall and the furniture while measuring. You might also want to consider the space between the bed and the dressing table and wardrobe too. Don't forget to leave enough space for doors to open and close as well.
