Fatigue usually sets in during the first trimester. After all, your body needs a little time to get used to the pregnancy and the hormonal changes.
Side effects like nausea, vomiting, body aches, sore muscles etc. can leave you feeling exhausted. These physical discomforts can also cause sleepless nights, adding to your fatigue woes.
The second trimester is usually a breeze. Your body has adjusted to the ongoing changes.
As you enter your eighth month, fatigue sets in again. Now, your body is gearing up for the Herculean task of labour and delivery. Plus, you happen to carry the weight of a fully developed baby. The anxiety and stress over the delivery doesn't help much either.
Strategies to Cope
Fatigue cannot be avoided entirely. However, a healthy lifestyle can help you control it.
Eat Healthy
Avoid junk food. It will only make you more sluggish. Instead, soothe your cravings with healthier options like vegetable sticks and fruits. Drink plenty of fluids in the form of water, juice and milk. Eat small meals at regular intervals.
Cat Naps
Try napping… even 30 minutes of sleep during the day is enough to recharge you, both physically and mentally.
Sleep Early
During pregnancy your body needs as much sleep as possible. So chuck those late nights and turn in early.
Exercise Everyday
A routine of light exercise like walking or yoga will help revive your sagging energy levels. It will also help you sleep better at night.
