But for all you know, you could be suffering from vaginismus. See what Gynaecologist Dr. Anita Soni has to say about the issue.
Vaginismus is a condition, where it is impossible to insert anything into the vagina. It could be a tampon or prenetration during sex.
Vaginismus is basically a reflexive action and makes you react involuntarily just as you pull your hand away from a hot plate. So if you have vaginismus, then you will not be able to control the sudden vaginal contraction you feel at the time of penetration.
Why Does It Happen?
Although this condition is purely physical, it has a close connection to psychological experiences.
For example, you may hear that intercourse involves terrible pain. When you actually have sex, your body confirms this. Thus, the pain becomes enforced and increased, and causes the contraction.
Vaginismus is more prevalent with cases of pre-marital sex. This is because there is a lot of anxiety involved with pre-marital sex.
Also, a conservative Indian background teaches young women that sex is bad. In this scenario, the fear and anxiety could cause the condition.
Remember, if you anticipate the pain and have anxiety issues about it, you have a greater chance of vaginismus.
Apart from that, vaginismus can also happen if you have had;
- A traumatic sexual experience.
- Unfaithful partners.
- To get married against your will.
