Primary vaginismus is defined as vaginal spasms that you would discover during your early twenties. You may not be able to know of this condition till you have sex.
You may feel a little confused because you may enjoy foreplay but dread penetration.
Secondary Vaginismus
Secondary vaginismus happens when the spasms occur due to these following reasons.
- Childbirth
- Urinary Tract Infection
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Infection
- Surgeries of the sexual organs or lower abdomen
- Vaginal prolapse
- Cancer of the cervix
- In case you have been raped
- If you have reached menopause
- Endometriosis
- It could also be AIDS related
Get Treated
The most common form of treatment is psychotherapy. You must understand that this pain is treatable. It is the first step in the healing process.
You could also try and overcome these symptoms by yourself. You can do this by lubricating your vagina with a lubricant jelly. Try inserting a finger slowly. Once you are comfortable with it, you can insert two fingers.
Vaginal dilators are also a good idea.
At a later stage, make sure you have adequate foreplay before penetration. This will ensure adequate lubrication.
Talking to your partner will help him understand the problem and you both could work it out together.
Last Resort…
If none of these methods work, gynaecologists suggest the Fenton surgery. This is a surgical process, which involves widening of the vagina, to allow smooth penetration.
But dont worry, this is an option in extreme cases.
