But, is having your first baby by 35 a good idea? With the lifestyle changes that have taken place in the past few years, infertility is definitely on the rise.
We spoke to Infertility Specialist Dr. Anjali Malpani and asked about the increasing infertility issues among couples in India.
Are late marriages contributing to infertility problems?
Late marriages are one of the main problems that have cropped up offlate.15 years back, eight out of 10 patients that came to me where between the age group of 23-27, and most of my patients were 35 and above.
Nowadays hardly anybody wants to get married in their early 20s. Even if they get married in their late twenties, they don't plan for a baby soon.
The woman's infertility rate is 10 to 15% when she is in her 20s and it shoots up to 25% in the 30s.
So if you put child bearing as one of your last priorities, it will be difficult for you to conceive because the fertility rate declines after 35.

Why does a woman's fertility rate decline sooner when compared to a man?
Every woman has an ovarian age. You are born with a millions of eggs and after you get your periods regularly, every month 30 eggs grow during the process of ovulation.
So approximately in a year you would lose 365 eggs. Even having a test tube baby will be a problem because the quality of eggs starts to decline.
Your ovarian reserve is decreasing as you grow older. On the other hand a man can produce sperms till the age of 60 to 70 or even above that.
