New Delhi: The world's biggest and best brands are in Delhi for the HT Mint Luxury conference. CNN-IBN correspondent Hindol Sengupta caught up with Yves Carcelle, the CEO of Louis Vuitton, the luxury brand with the biggest presence in India.
Hindol Sengupta: Just 1 per cent of the world's luxury market exits in India today – does it mean to you huge growth or major impediments still to be sought?
Yves Carcelle: It's a huge potential. India represents 1.1 billion people. We have seen fantastic growth over the last few years. And if you are the number one luxury brand in the world then you cannot ignore the huge potential that the Indian market has.
Hindol Sengupta: So, you want to grow far more rapidly than you are able to grow at the moment in India?
Yves Carcelle: I wish to see luxury brands blossoming in India but the idea is that things are done well than quickly.
Hindol Sengupta: When your short-term goals are not met, isn't there ever a sense of frustration?
Yves Carcelle: Today, we have 372 stores all over the world, opening 15-20 every year. So, if one of our projects are postponed in India by three or four months that doesn't change the overall picture. But it would change if we feel pressurised and if we accept to open a store in a location, which will not be perfect for us.
