New Delhi: He's 73, but still young at heart and loves adventures. He is one of India's favourite writers, Ruskin Bond.
Bond was in Delhi to promote his latest book Omnibus5, when CNN-IBN's Whazzup Junior correspondents, Raghav and Siddhant caught up with him for this exclusive chat.
Sidhant: Which book of yours is your personal favourite as a reader and as an author?
Ruskin Bond: A lot of my books. I have collections of stories. I think the ones that I have enjoyed writing the most are those which take me back to my boyhood. Basically people interest me and stories have to be about people, but when I run out of people, I write about ghosts. (laughs)
Raghav: Do you feel marginalised as a children's author?
Ruskin Bond: When I started writing, I was really writing for adults. Then somebody just suggested, you write so well about childhood, so why not write for children too.
Sidhant: You have never tried to preach, but nowadays teachers do use your stories to preach. Do you think that's right?
Ruskin Bond: I don't think you should ever preach to a young reader or write down to them or even presume that you know more than them because you don't obviously do.
Sidhant: Which are your favourite contemporary writers from amongst Indian writers?
Ruskin Bond: I like the works of Vikram Seth and Amitav Ghosh, but there are so many others now.
