George Koshy, Mumbai: Do you know what a GILT is? What is the difference between savings account and current account? What's Repo rate and SLR?
For those into banking and investment, these questions shouldn't be too tough to answer. But there are still many in the country who do not understand the nitty-gritties of banking or finance.
Therefore, RBI has come to their aid and has begun circulating comic books to simplify banking fundas for the uninitiated.
"The idea of bringing out comics explaining complex aspects of finance is to make it easier for even the common person on the street to understand it and use banking facilities," RBI's Chief General Manager, Alpana Killawala.
Simple language, colourful cartoons and a story-line that retains attention have made this unique comic strip a hit among the masses.
"It's a fabulous idea and very helpful too. It's so easy to understand especially when I was thinking of taking a loan lately," says a roadside vendor, Dinesh Patel.
This strip is just the first in the series. RBI is also planning to bring in more of these with issues pertaining to women, senior citizens and even defense personnel, all conceptualised and executed in-house by the RBI employees themselves.
So the next time your parents catch you reading a comic book when you are supposed to study, or your employer catches you reading one of these when you have to work for him, simply tell them you are empowering yourself with more financial knowledge.
