Hemender Sharma, Ujjain: Less than a year after Professor Sabharwal's was allegedly murdered by students of Ram Madhav college in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, another similar has been reported from the city.
Agitating members of the BJP-affiliated ABVP beat up the Principal of the city’s Maharaja College, Ashish Mehta, on Tuesday for allegedly taking action against students caught cheating in an exam.
"They barged in and broke furniture in my room. They asked me to allow whatever their friends wanted to do. When I refused, they locked the room and beat me up," recalls Mehta Shockingly, one of the accused in the Sabharwal case - ABVP leader Bhanu Pratap Bhadoria – was also involved in this latest attack.
Bhadoria and co-accused Vikas Khatri are still at large. The state police have registered a case. Says and eyewitness, Vijay Lodd, "They broke furniture and beat him in front of us. They also said no one can haul them up."
The tacit support the ABVP seems to be getting from those in power is worrying the police. With Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan meeting Vishal Tomar, the key accused in the Sabharwal murder case, the speculation of a nexus is gaining ground.
Chauhan was an ABVP activist once and many are questioning his priorities and integrity.
