Pune: It was a love triangle involving three management students that went horribly wrong.
One of them, Udit, is dead and the two others, Aditi and Pravin, are in jail - under suspicion of having murdered him.
All three of them are from Jammu and are students at the IIMM college in Pune. According to Udit's father, his son was in a relationship with Aditi and the three friends went to Shirdi town on April 23.
When they returned to Pune, Udit felt unwell and was admitted to hospital. In less than 48 hours, he was dead.
Initially a case of accidental death was registered, but Udit's father, unwilling to accept that explanation for his son's death charged Aditi and Pravin of plotting to kill him.
Udit's father said that they wanted Udit out of the way as they had fallen in love with each other, but could not be in a relationship since Aditi was already Udit's girlfriend.
The allegation prompted the police to investigate and they found traces of arsenic in Udit's body in the post mortem.
The police then arrested Aditi and Pravin. DCP, Pune Zone 3, C Daithankar said, "We have applied IPC 302. Though the post mortem report does not give the exact cause of death, there was arsenic acid found in Udit's body."
Both Aditi and Pravin have been sent to four days in police custody and their case will come up again for hearing on May 19.
